34th edition of AAHAR – International Food and Hospitality fair-begins in New Delhi

The 34th edition of Aahar – the International Food and Hospitality Fair commenced in New Delhi. The five-day fair, organised by India Trade Promotion Organisation, ITPO, features wide range of food products, machinery, food and beverages equipment, hospitality and decor solutions, confectionery items from over 560 participants from India and foreign countries.

Arecanut gets its first GI tag for ‘Sirsi Supari’

Arecanut (also known as supari or betel nut) is the latest entrant in the list of agricultural produce with a GI (geographical indication) tag. The Registrar of Geographical Indications, Government of India, accorded a GI tag, ‘Sirsi Supari’, to arecanut grown in Sirsi, Siddpaur and Yellapur taluks of Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka.

Pinaka guided rocket system successfully test fired

Defence Research and Development organisation, DRDO successfully test fired the PINAKA guided WEAPON rocket system from Pokhran range in Rajasthan. This indigenously developed Guided PINAKA by DRDO will significantly boost the capability of the artillery to make precision hits. Pinaka is a multiple rocket launcher produced in India for the Indian Army. Pinaka saw service during the Kargil War, where it was successful in neutralising enemy positions on the mountain tops.
Marshall Islands digital currency SOV to be released in 2019
The Marshall Islands is planning to release a digital currency called “SOV” this year in 2019. Neema, an Israel-based company, is partnering with the Marshall Islands government to develop the digital currency. Saudi Arabia replaces India as world’s largest arms importer

Saudi Arabia has now become the largest importer of arms in the world, having pushed India to the second spot, according to the premier Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). In its report on ‘Trends in International Arms Transfers 2018’ released recently, the institute identified Saudi Arabia, India, Egypt, Australia and Algeria as the 5 top arms importing countries and the United States, Russia, France, Germany and China as the 5 top arms exporting nations.


RBI set to become 10th largest holder in gold

The Reserve Bank of India, which added 6.5 tonnes of gold to its reserves in January, taking its total holding forming part of its foreign exchange reserves to 607 tonnes, is set to become the tenth largest holder of the metal worldwide, displacing the Nerherlands.


Rajasthan Royals sign BookMyShow as exclusive ticketing partner

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals announced a deal with BookMyShow for the upcoming season of the league. Tickets for Royal’s home matches, which will be held at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur from March 25, will go on sale online from 12 March.
